What is Topamax? |
Topamax tablets belong to a class of mood stabilizer drugs, which are also known as an "Anticonvulsant". Its chemical composition is "C12H21NO8S". Topamax drug is commonly used in the treatment of epilepsy. This medicine is typically added to the course of therapy when other drugs fail to fully control a patient's attacks. In patients of bipolar disorders this medicine stabilizes temper without producing an ecstatic feeling. In medical researches scientists found that it also prevents migraine headaches in adults.

There are few serious risks associated with this medicine include lowered bicarbonate levels in the blood may cause in an increase in the acidity of the blood, hyperventilation or exhaustion.

Topamax Dosage |
For proper dosage follow your doctor’s instruction properly. You can take this medicine in any time of the day. You can take it in empty or full stomach. Though it isn’t being prescribed but its better to swallow, because it has a nasty bitter taste. The usual preliminary dose is 25 to 50mg daily in 2 solitary doses. Without your doctor’s permissions do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed limit because this drug may cause obsession.

Topamax Missed Dose |
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. In any condition do not take double dose of this medicine. Instead, skip the missed dose and continue your usual dosage as scheduled.

Topamax Overdose |
If you have an overdose of Topamax by mistake, you may feel unusually fast or slow heart beat fast breathing, confusion, giddiness, difficulty in breathing, pain in chest, in these condition contact your local poison control center.

Possible food interactions |
Topamax increases the chances of developing kidney stones. To prevent this problem, be sure to take this medication with plenty of fluids. Stop drinking alcohol while taking this medication. Alcohol may cause increased sedation or sleepiness, and increase the risk of having a convulsion. During the period of medication avoid taking Dichlorphenamide, Metformin, Oral contraceptives, Acetazolamide, Valproic acid, Carbamazepine. Because with these drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important that you consult your doctor before combining Topamax with the unlisted drugs.
